Our Services

For Planning Applications of New Building Developments

Traffic & Transportation Modelling

  • Transportation Assessments and Transport Statements
    • Establish a development’s traffic impact with a Transportation Assessment (TA). An early TA can avoid expensive and time consuming delays later in the planning process. Taking account of the location and local planning policy, the TA considers the development’s traffic generation and parking upon on the local highway network.
  • Sustainable Travel Plans
    • A Travel Plan aims to reduce dependence on the car by promoting more sustainable alternatives. Based on the preliminary data provided by the Transportation Assessment, the Travel Plan includes measures to encourage use of local public transport, pedestrian and cycling facilities. It may include innovative sustainable measures such as the Car Clubs.
  • Car Parking Solutions
  • Public Transport Assessments
  • ARCADY and PICADY junction modelling

Highway Engineering Outline Design

  • Access and Estate Roads
    • This will consider the existing sightlines and traffic speeds, including speed surveys if required. In and around the site, we would consider Vehicle Turning Circles and Swept Paths, by carrying out a vehicle swept path analysis using Autotrack software to find practical and cost effective options. We would consult and negotiate with the local authority to develop a preferred access solution including traffic calming schemes. Other solutions such as traffic signal design and roundabout design may also be considered.
  • Junction Sightline Analysis and Design
    • Many areas that were previously covered by rigorous design guidelines may now be developed using the relaxed design standards of Manual for Streets 2. MfS2 makes more efficient and effective use of land by reducing road widths and allowing shared accesses. It also improves the appearance of a development with techniques such as less signing and white lining, and the integration of street furniture, resulting overall in less street clutter.
  • Swept Path Analysis for Emergency and Services Vehicles
    • This ensures fire tenders and refuse vehicles can safely access and manoeuvre around the development. Analysis using Autotrack software can simulate the turning circles and swept paths of a range of vehicles to find the most practical and cost effective solution.

Drainage Consulting and Flood Risk Management

  • Foul and Surface Water Strategies
  • Flood Risk Assessments
  • Sustainable Urban Drainage Schemes (SUDS)
    • For proposed developments, our drainage specialists will carry out the design of Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS). We will develop the most cost effective solutions, balancing storage and discharge of the surface water within the constraints of the Environment Agency. This may include techniques such as green roofs and rainwater harvesting. We would produce detailed engineering design drawings and specifications for the development infrastructure, including highway drainage, surface water drainage and foul water drainage.

For Construction Projects

Supporting Sustainable Development

  • Reports for the Code for Sustainable Homes
  • SUR1 and SUR2 surface water reports
    • Assessment of Surface Water Runoff (Sur1) is mandatory for the Code for Sustainable Homes. In addition, up to TWO extra credits are available for Flood Risk (Sur2). We frequently act as an Independent Drainage Specialist to produce Sur1 and Sur2 reports.
  • Energy & Sustainability Assessments
    • Many development proposals must include a detailed energy and sustainability assessment with their Planning Application. We can demonstrate a successful track record of quickly finding an affordable solution to these increasingly challenging requirements.
  • Expert Witness Services
    • We have successfully represented engineering issues for proposed developments at planning inquiries. We have provided expert witness services for written representations, informal hearings and full public inquiries.
  • Noise Assessments
    • Our service includes site noise surveys, impact assessments and the preparation of noise control schemes to meet planning criteria.
  • CDM Principal Designer services

Road Safety Engineering

  • Accident analysis
  • Urban and Rural Road Safety Management
  • Stage 1, 2 and 3 Road Safety Audits
    • If the development involves a new or improved access to the public highway, many local authorities will insist on a Road Safety Audit. Our Highway Engineers are able to carry out Road Safety Audits, Stages 1 through to 4, based upon Highways Agency procedure DMRB Vol 5, HD 19/15 and the IHT Guidelines. This identifies the potential road safety hazards that may arise from the improvement and recommend measures to resolve them.
