Stage 2 & 3 Road Safety Audit,
Station/Station Link Road
Stage 2 and Stage 3 Road Safety Audits of the traffic management and road improvements associated with the enhancement of Wokingham rail station.
- Stage 2 Road Safety Audit
- Stage 3 Road Safety Audit
The improvements to Wokingham Rail Station included provision of a new car park, new traffic signals adjacent to the existing level crossing and alterations to the local traffic network.
The Stage 2 audit identified issues associated with operation of the car park, integrating the traffic signals with operation of the level crossing, disabled access and signing.
The Stage 3 Road Safety focused on the Station Link Road Highway Scheme and identified numerous issues, including confusing one way to two way operation, problems with signing and lighting, hazards to cyclists, visibility and illegal behaviour by some road users.
In each case the audit recommended solutions to address these issues.
Wokingham Rail station is a busy commuter station on the railway line between Reading and Redhill/Gatwick Airport.
The station also provides a service to London Waterloo.
Improvements to the station buildings and facilities coincided with a major road improvement and various traffic management measures. The station is located near the town centre which presented many additional challenges to the proposed design improvements.
